The BIG Draw 2015, '..ECHOES..' in The Old Parcels Office, Scarborough Railway Station
'Every picture tells a story' - Every person that ever walked into Scarborough's Victorian station left an echo. I wanted to visually capture those echoes of Past, Present and Potential users of the space, while freeing up the fun, the expression and imaginations of the visitors. We shone spotlights onto the walls and projected our shadows, taking it in turns to cast shadows and draw around them, moving a little evolved these 'static animations' that began to interact with each other. We were helped in this with loans of 'silhouette centric' historic costumes from our musical theatre and some more comic ones from the local dance school. It was important that the figures were in movement/transition so i asked a friend to introduce a Blues Fusion dance improvisation into the mix, while artists of all levels were given the opportunity to draw the dance.. the figure in movement. The day was a whale of a success with around 200 visitors of all ages participating in a multitude of ways. What stands out to me are the smiles on the faces and willingness to give everything a try!
